The Cougar Band Program
Welcome to the award winning Juan Seguin High School Cougar Band Program. The Cougar band offers a comprehensive approach to instrumental music education through individual and ensemble performance opportunities at an exceptionally high level. Students have numerous opportunities to grow as a musicians and leaders within the winning program.
Cougar Marching Band
The Cougar Marching Band consists of all band students from all of the concert ensembles. The Marching Band performs in the stands and at halftime of all away football games. Students audition during band camp to earn a spot in the varsity Marching Show. In addition to performances at all varsity football games, the Cougar Marching Band also performs in several marching competitions across the state, as well as the UIL marching competition.
Concert Band
The Concert Band is comprised of students who are proficient on their instrument, but may not have developed to the level of a Symphonic Winds member. Students in this ensemble perform music at a level appropriate for their development. The group does not participate in UIL concert band festival.
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is the premiere performing group at Juan Seguin High School. Students in this ensemble have demonstrated a high level of mastery on their instrument and are capable of performing music literature at a high level. This ensemble performances include: the Winter concert, Spring concert, UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest, and other special events and festival performances as scheduled. The students in the Wind Ensemble are expected to audition for the All-Region Band and perform a solo at UIL solo and ensemble contest.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Ensemble is comprised of members of the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Winds who are interested in expanding their musical skills and knowledge through this unique American musical idiom.
This ensemble performs at Winter and Spring concerts as well as various community events.
Symphonic Winds
The Symphonic Winds is our second concert ensemble. This ensemble performances include: the Winter concert, Spring concert, UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest, and other special events and festival performances as scheduled. Students in the Symphonic Winds are highly encouraged to audition for the All-Region Band, and they are expected to perform a solo at the UIL solo and ensemble contest. Students in this ensemble perform music at a level appropriate for their development.
Color Guard
This unique performing group is focused on combining use of flags, rifles, and sabers with progressive elements of dance and movement and marching drill. The color guard is open to any student through audition. During the fall, the color guard is an important component of the marching band, and through the spring semester, the guard functions as an indoor competitive group called Winter Guard.
